Vuillaume Workshop Violin – Stentor II Model (Paris, c.1870, 4/4)
This full-size Stentor II violin was made in the Paris workshop of Nicolas Vuillaume III, brother of the renowned Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume. Nicolas produced only the Stentor and Sainte Cécile models in his shop, both known for their elegant workmanship and refined tonal quality.
Dating from around 1870, this violin is a true example of the Vuillaume family’s 19th-century craftsmanship. It features a beautifully preserved orangish-brown varnish over a golden ground, with classic French arching and precise detailing.
Tonally, the instrument is clear, bright, and open, with a floating, lyrical quality that projects easily without harshness. Responsive and articulate, it offers the clarity and refinement that made Vuillaume workshop violins so highly regarded among musicians and collectors alike.
